In order to create a Sodium Chlorite solution, there are several things to consider and have prepared ahead of time.

Please note: These details are being provided based upon calculations made for using 6 pounds (~2.72 kg) of pure, 80% Sodium Chlorite Tech Grade flakes. Proper safety measures must be taken when working with raw compounds. Responsibility on proper and safe use is that of the individual. Do not work with nor store Sodium Chlorite flakes or your solution around children and pets. Keep away from open flames and other flammables.

Items Required:

  • 6lbs of 80% Sodium Chlorite flakes
  • 1.8 gallons (3.785 liters) of distilled water
  • Latex or Nitril gloves
  • A surgical-grade mask
  • Protective eye-wear (work glasses)
  • A workspace with good ventilation (fresh air/airflow)
  • A non-metal container for mixing
  • A clear and free workspace
  • Extra water and a cloth (or paper towel) for any clean-up necessary

Procedure:

  • Add the 1.8 gallons of water into your large container for mixing. (Using a plastic container is ideal).
  • Slowly add the Sodium Chlorite flakes into the container (holding the water) while mixing.
  • Gently and continuously stir. Make certain to keep stirring, thoroughly, for 20 minutes and/or until all of the flakes/power have full dissolved in the water.
  • Put the final solution into a glass or BPA-free plastic container that can be sealed (air-tight closure).
  • Store (keep) in a cool, dark place away from sunlight and any flammable substances.
